On November 8, the community of Galeya Rogdha in southern Ethiopia came together to celebrate the expansion of the local clinic. This project was funded thanks to the generous support of Engera’s donors. The clinic will soon operate as a full health center offering better and more reliable care for mothers, children and families.
The new building was constructed by Kubik, an innovative company that turns hard-to-recycle plastic into low-carbon and affordable building materials. Their interlocking blocks made construction efficient and sustainable, and even became toys for local children, who built their own small creations with the leftovers!
We were pleased to welcome Kidus Asfaw, the founder of Kubik, as well as community leaders, health officials, Bishop Lukas of Emdibir and the clinic staff. We also welcomed Colleen McKenna, Executive Director of the AJA Foundation, and board members Ana de Diego and Blanca de Diego Arozamena. The AJA Foundation has supported Engera for many years, and it was wonderful for them to see the results of their support.
The expanded health center now features separate delivery and post-delivery rooms, private showers, and enhanced services for children under five.
This project strengthens essential healthcare in an underresourced rural area and demonstrates how sustainable construction can support community wellbeing.
Thank you to our supporters, the clinic staff, our partners, and the Kubik team for making this possible.
